Killer or Poet?

Once upon a time I was told there were lots of different types of people in the ad business.

Strategists, creatives, marketers, writers, artists, designers, artworkers, suits, producers, PAs, art buyers, account men, PRs, execs… But, as hard as I looked, I only really saw two types.

But I could never describe them.

Until, one fine day, someone named them. Killers. And Poets.

Killers: All about the money and commercials.

Poets: All about the idea and impact of the work.

Brilliant. And so, so true. You can’t survive being either one entirely. But to do well, you need to know which you want to be most.

I’m a poet. But armed. And very dangerous.
